what i see every day

here is one of the alleys by my apartment. soon i will post some pictures of the aquariums outside of the restaurants. sorry its sideways.

my school has really dramatic scenery around it. the mountains seem to have just shot right out of the ground. this is a shot from one of the courtyards at my school

and here is my classroom which needs some decorations or something. it feels bland. maybe i can get the kids to make something. every classroom i have seen in seoul has had a computer that is hooked up to a big-screen tv.
one fun thing i have been doing in class is giving the children (3rd-6th grade) english names. if they already have one, i let them use whatever they want. but if any kid has no idea what name to pick, i pick one for him. so there are several chris's (as in king), a marr, a huffine, a dixon, alot of tobys (for some reason they love the name toby. i put a bunch of boys and girls names on the board and toby is by far the favorite... in one class we had a toby1, toby2, and toby3. ) then there are megans, jasons, emilys, 1 lucas, i tried to do a jonathan and a jackson, but they didn't like it. one kid got confused and his name is gina. there is also a laura. i tried to get one kid to be dominic but he didn't like it. nobody picked beecher either. (im not joking) i think i am forgetting some names. if you want a korean child named after you, lemme know.

I think you should have a "Cutter" and a "Bud". And what...no Cara yet?

They would LOVE the name Jobe.

This made me cry a little.

All those Tobys. So wonderful.

I also think they would love the name Jobe, but only if you spell it G.O.B.

littlejohn always carries an air of mystery...especially since they'll think they are named after the rapper. Mia might already be a popular Asian name so that's probably not too exciting for them. Sounds like good times...

And what about the "too much English stereotypical names"? Such as...John, Peter, Paul or Jack, Marie or Elisabeth? Is it too 'Christian'? Well, you also have Michael, Brandon (too Hollywoodian maybe), Samentha or Jessica...
Just a Cameroonian point of view.

Take care

::::::::sigh:::::::: I guess Susan would be totally insane, huh? Figgers. Whatever. I'm insulted.

I'm going to name one of the hundreds of gekos or lizards in our garden "Will" then. Or maybe one of those gansta chickens that have been tearing up the landscaping - they could be named Will.

BTW, you need an interior designer for the class. I can see a Robin Williams sort, adding a dash of color here, a bit of drama there....Something F-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!

The landscape looks like parts of Southern California in a way...and of course in the Caribbean there are a lot of volcano-based mountains that are just big 'cones' like the ones in your pic. Are the hills volcanic in origin there?
