i didn't have classes on friday and i decided to wander around and find out why and followed the sound to the soccer field where every student was engaged in various dangerous competitive sports.

that is one of my favorite teachers. she is always really nice to me.

use your imagination here. everyone just randomly grabs a rope and pulls as hard as they can. boys and girls mixed. as soon as one rope gets pulled to the other side, they run back to another one until everyone is on one rope. they were getting trampled left and right. there was a nurses table set up and after literally each event there would be at least one kid with a bloody knee or nose. one 2nd grade was spewing blood out of her nose. it was crazy.

notice the ajuma visor. if your an old lady, you MUST wear an oversized visor if the sun is shining.

that girl on the right is named cara. she is so friggin cute. she always gets really excited whenever she sees me and runs up to me and says 'hello!!!' and then, because that's all she knows, she runs away and yells ' hello!'. if only she knew the danger she was in of me eating her alive.

we were doing a lesson on colors in third grade and as they were coloring fruit, i was walking around and the girl on the left said that i have a watermelon face. (it is very bad in korea to have a 'big face', whatever that means) i was like, 'what?' and she repeated it again and then told me i was dirty and a 'very very bad teacher'. i told her she had banana fingers and then asked her what color my face was. she said green. and the teacher won.

i have too many friends in the states named jisu, so this one goes out to all of you. i miss you gals!!!

this year i have some new students cleaning my classroom in the morning. some other teacher assigned them the job because i dont have a homeroom class to do it. so the first day, being the cool teacher i am, i gave them some candy. the next day after cleaning my room, they all came up to me and asked me for candy and i told them no because i was running low and needed it for the lesson that day. the next two days they did the same thing and i told them i really didn't have any. the next morning i found this scrawled on the bored, almost hidden.

the teacher has become the teacher: ive been teaching a conversation class this week for the teachers. its fun. even with a haircut, i still look homeless.

for our lesson i described a person and they had to color and draw them. 'she has.... red pants!, she has... big purple shoes!' i like to let them be creative, but its not any kind of 'great teacher/dead poet society' kind of thing. i just like seeing the crazy crap they come up with. at the end the kids were all saying, 'what color skin?!?!' and they all wanted to do black. i decided red was maybe a better color.

look at that kids smirky little condescending glare. he is so aptly named.

btw that kid behind him always has an X on his cheek that looks like the remnance of ash wednesday. at first i thought it was dirt. i dont know what it is. any guesses?

whenever i need relationship advice, i always invite this girl out to a bar and spill my guts. i should have named that other kid jason.

i have by far the worst classroom in the school. i dont know how the other teachers find the motivation to decorate. i feel bad, but then remember some of my favorite teachers were the same way.

i've got my own simon, toby, and emily. notice the perfect bunny ears emily throws up. bravo!

one of the teachers has been taking pictures of me teaching. maybe he will give me some more of them later. these are the 6th graders and i playing simon says. teaching is really fun so far. i have 3rd-6th grade. so that is 4 lesson plans a week. the first one is always kind of shaky, but by the 4th or 5th class i've got it down and the kids are learning and having fun.
